doughnut & rabbit's half-arsed Juno review, and spiderman 3 insults

Submitted by doughnut on February 26, 2008 - 3:53pm.

First, a bit of history... Rabbit hates Juno as much as me. So ends the history.

This is copied straight from the chat log...

I am a PlayStation 3 Owner

Submitted by doughnut on October 27, 2007 - 10:57pm.

Okay, yes I caved. I went out and bought a 40GB PS3.

My train of thought was that the 40GB offers no backwards compatibility so I could jump ship and get an Xbox 360. But I came to the conclusion that it's better the devil you know.

Yeah, 40GB is lame but apparently there's now support for external hard drives and it's not hard to replace the standard HD with something of a size that matters. There's even a panel on the side of the case that says to remove when changing the hard drive. Of course I won't be changing the HD for awhile as not all games load content onto the HD.

The games I got when I picked up the system are Motorstorm and Heavenly Sword.

Canis Canem Edit (Bully)

Submitted by doughnut on November 6, 2006 - 12:15am.

Since I've been starved for a new PS2 game since I picked up God of War, today I decided to pick up Bully, also known as "Canis Canem Edit" (I'd like to find out the English translation, if any, of that title). So, how do I like it so far?

Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift

Submitted by doughnut on June 19, 2006 - 9:31pm.

I went into this movie thinking it would be as bad as "Too Fast Too Furious" - Plus, I'm not a big fan of drift racing. This lasted for all of around 20 minutes, as this Tokyo Drift isn't as bad as I thought.

The story of Tokyo Drift is told quite fast, and doesn't leave time for much character development. But that's made up for by being short and mostly action packed.

If you don't care enough to watch it, I'll save you the trouble. American gets in shit with the law, moves to Tokyo to avoid jail sentence, discovers drift racing and sucks at it. Gets someone to teach him how to drift, sucks at it... Sucks at it... Sucks at it... Gets better... Bam, drifts like a pro (complete with drift skill building montage). Introduction of girl, girl belongs to other guy... Causes conflict, eventually ends up with American.

Queue the building of an entire car in one night... A Mustang with a Skyline GT-R engine (sacrilege?), tuned up and ready to go for the Hollywood ending.

Now, that's how simple the story is. But I still think the ride it takes you on is fun. So, would I buy this movie? Yeah... But not for retail... Maybe when it's down to $15-20.

Scrubs Season 2 DVD

Submitted by doughnut on October 2, 2005 - 12:56pm.

Season 2 starts off right where the first season ended. With Jordan revealing some of the secrets that those in the hospital have been keeping from each other.

This season, we see the people we're familiar with growing emotionally, each in their own way. Turk and Carla contemplate getting married, Jordan comes back into Dr Cox's life as she has a baby, Eliot is left to her own income as her parents cut her off, JD continues to find the place he wants to be at with his career and personal life.

The season is very strong with some hilarious episodes, and dramatic ones that once again leaving you hanging for the next season.

The features are similar to that in the season 1 DVDs, some are even cut from the same interviews but are edited so they're focused on season 2 episodes only. There's two on the first three discs though none on the fourth to. The commentaries are as entertaining as season one's, as the creator (Bill Lawrence) talks with a different actor each time.

I've said to before, but here it is again... A second Scrubs soundtrack needs to be released. The first one has music from seasons 1 and 2, but it misses out on some great songs.

"i can't get to sleep, i think about the implications..."

Submitted by doughnut on September 21, 2005 - 9:16pm.

Huzzah, Scrubs season 2! Strangely enough, it won't be released until November 15th in the US. Oh well, I've still got it now. I guess my re-watching of Buffy is put on for awhile.

Season 2 starts off right where the first season finished. Jordan Sullivan (Dr. Cox's ex-wife) has proudly announced everyone's little secrets. Dr. Cox is in love with Carla and Turk knows this, Elliot is still in love with JD, and that Jordan and JD slept together.

When I finish watching the season, along with all the extras, I'll write up a review-type thing just like last time

Scrubs Season 1 DVD

Submitted by doughnut on July 18, 2005 - 4:45pm.

I'm a big fan of the TV series "Scrubs". I enjoy the comedy side of the show as much as I enjoy watching the stories and experiences of the 3 young doctors the shows revolves around. No need to into detail about the show, why would you be reading a review of the DVD if you hadn't seen the show before?

Four discs come in the case, seven episodes each disc, except for the last which has three episodes. There's even a handy "Play All" button on the main menu. Each disc has one or two commentaries. I would have preferred more commentaries, but that's just me.

The last disc features the extras. I'm a big fan of extras on DVDs. The more filler they can squeeze in, the better. As long as it's entertaining content. Included are the fairly standard out-takes and deleted scenes. The interviews with numerous cast and crew members are interesting and presented well. They do single out Zach Braff with his own feature. I would have preferred to see more interview time with Sarah Chalke (Elliot Reid) and Donald Faison (Chris Turk) but what's included is interesting and worth watching.

The last extra I'll mention is "Favourite Moments". Which is a collection of cast and writers talking about their favourite season 1 episodes. It's interesting to hear their reasons why they pick the episodes that they do and I hope they continue this with the future DVD season releases.

If you're a fan of the show, this DVD is definitely worth the purchase. Though it does leave you with a feeling of wanting more. As of yet, there's no word on when season 2 will be released.

Gran Turismo 4: The Real Driving Simiulator

Submitted by doughnut on April 7, 2005 - 1:58pm.

Developer: Polyphony Digital
Distributor: Sony Computer Entertainment

The Gran Turismo series has been around since before I knew what this fancy PlayStation thing was, and is far too vast for me to review everything about the this, the fourth iteration of the classic game.

Over the years, I've managed to play GT1, GT3 and GT4: Prologue, so I can feel confident in saying this about GT4:

Not much has changed over the years.

True Crime - Streets of LA

Submitted by doughnut on January 24, 2004 - 10:30pm.

Developer: Luxoflux
Distributor: Activision

Welcome to 240 square miles of LA streets, crime and stupid drivers. Oh, and it's a video game now as well. You are Nick Kang Wilson, part of the freshly created E.O.D. The Elite Operations Division, a fancy new Police division that has authority over all of LA. No boundaries for you... Well, except for boundaries that stop you from leaving LA.
