What did I do today? Lets see...

So Long Little Milly

Tonight I had the painful task of saying good-bye to my dog.

A dog that was acting fine last weekend, and tonight I had to say good bye to her, as there was nothing more that could be done for her.

A growth had developed on her lungs making it near impossible for her to breathe - she couldn't even lay down.

She was only five.

She wagged her tail as much as she could when she was brought out to us, as if she was coming home with us.

I couldn't watch it happen.

"beer, beer, beer, tiddly beer, beer, beer..."

If you haven't seen it yet, check out this flyer that I picked up. I find out more about it next Wednesday. I plan on taking part, and it would be awesome if I could get a photo included in the exhibition. I'm open for suggestions on photo content.

I went for a walk today and got some photos of a few birds in trees and pecking around on in the grass. Some will be uploaded shortly. The easiest way to see today's photos is with this link for all of today's content.

It was quite overcast today, and in my newbie-ness with the camera, a lot of these photos are overly bright. This is partly the auto-white balance setting, but mostly my choice of settings. But these fields aren't going anywhere, so I'll go for another walk around them tomorrow and try again.

And lastly, any suggestions for a new poll? This one has run it's course and has fallen over.

shades of yellow with a hint of numbness

Went to have my 12 monthly eye check up today, while it's usually a very annoying day of public transport and hours of waiting it didn't go too bad today. My appointment was only delayed by about an hour, and I was driven there and back. Nice and quick today.

So, here I sit in a darkened room putting on sunglasses whenever I step out of it, pupils dilated and number from an anaesthetic kind of drops. I would like to play around with my fancy new camera, it's very hard to focus on anything at the moment.

On the plus side, there's been no change in my eyes. Yay.

Something small though slightly odd happened when I was given one kind of drops that show up any reaction under a UV light... When I blinked for the first few times, I saw everything in a shade of yellow. It was kind of cool, like sunglasses straight on your eyes. I can't even remember it happening before.

Well, I should be back to normal tomorrow so hopefully I'll have more time to take photos.

A few photos have been uploaded over the last couple of days, check the recent posts if you'd like to see them, or just click through the galleries.

So, I did it...

Yeah... I went and bought a Canon EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT. Even got the twin lens kit (18-55mm, 75-300mm) and a 1GB Sandisk Ultra II CompactFlash card. It was a lot of money, but at least I'll stop complaining about not having it now.

It's a big set up from my previous camera, as I now have many more control options, but there are a number of auto settings but I don't want to get tied down to those, I want to learn how to choose the settings myself. There's a very good site that has tutorials in using my exact camera, they're written well and I've already read a few of them.

iPhoto is slow when using the 4 megapixel photos from a friends camera, so I bet it will chug-a-long with the 8 megapixel images the Digital Rebel XT pumps out. I might have to look into another photo cataloguing program.

I had the idea to organise a hiking trip somewhere one day, just a day thing. Somewhere that would relatively easy going (though not paved walkways of course) as a day of exercise and photo taking. I guess I'll have to look more into it.

If I let myself think about it, I would like to sell some photos at some point. I guess I've got to take worthy photos first. Perhaps I'll frame some for myself first, start a collection on my own walls.

"difficult not to feel a little bit disappointed"

As you can see on the left is a new "Recent Comments" section. This is mostly for those that have been commenting regularly. Hopefully it will encourage others to do comment more as well.

On the links page there's a couple new links added, one to mikey-san.net the other to robotwax.com. Friends of the pastry, as it were.

My hands still smell like onion despite cleaning them many times, why did I have to volunteer to cut them at the BBQ tonight?

I've started watching Buffy from the very beginning again. Since tvtome.com was sold and changed to tv.com with a new ugly interface and enough advertising to choke a marketing executive, I've come across a new site that will eventually provide the same information that the old TVTome did - tviv.info. I plan on adding some information to the empty pages about Buffy as I watch the episodes. Just a small activity to keep me entertained.

It's probably about time I went through my entire DVD library, there's many that I haven't watched in a very long time. Gotta get the value out of them, I guess.

didn't you hear? they have no banana's :(

I think this look will do until I get around to making my own theme again, and if you know my track record on these things hopefully you like this look.

Looks like Scrubs season 2 will be out on DVD on the 21st of this month, this is a great thing and I look forward to writing the review for it. Perhaps I'll even track down why I like Scrubs so much. I hope a second OST for Scrubs is released as well, the first soundtrack was brilliant.

I started writing an "about me" page, but ran out of things to say. So I guess I'll continue to add a sentence here or there whenever I can think of something to add.

While the image gallery isn't back online yet, I can still share some photos with anyone that cares to look. So, here's some photos taken at a couple beaches around Wollongong.

I need a title for this post. Oh, that'll do!

Well, I'm a little closer to a secret project coming to light. I have server space, and the project even has a logo. Oh yes, a logo. Things are really moving along now! Perhaps this is my "big project"? Find out soon, I guess.

Went into EzyDVD to pick up Scrubs Season 1 on DVD on Monday. Bloody well had sold out. I bet they underestimated the demand for that show. Well, now they've gone and done it... Constantine comes out on DVD next week as well. And for $27, that's a great price. I have a feeling I'll be finding my way to that shelf too.

Anyone got any suggestions for a new poll? This one has run it's course. And it seems like a dead heat... Apart from a stray voter. We'll call that the 1% chance of error. hehe

Can you believe that someone actually tried to hack my site? What could someone possibly find intriguing enough about my site that they'd want to try and hack it? Well, it wasn't even a "hack", it was someone trying to use a documented exploit within "drupal". I've since upgraded (4.5.4 for those playing at home) and that exploit is now gone-ed.

"Jayne, your mouth is talking, you might wanna look into that."

Been awhile, but I don't see anyone complaining.

Had a cold over the week, I think it'll be gone over the next few days. That'll be nice, as I can get back to visiting my sister's family.

A friend of mine wrote an interest piece on his site that's got me thinking a bit. I often have ideas about a wide variety of things, but I've never come across my "big project" yet, unfortunately. Of course, every time I'll write something down now, I stop and wonder if that'll be my big project. Probably a bad habit to get into. Something will come along one day... Hopefully.

so, what isn't moving?

Well, it seems that I'll be moving soon. Mum is going ahead with the sale of the place I've called home for 21 years. On that matter, I'll only say this...

Selling the place for $290-320,000, only to be getting a mortgage with someone else. Why isn't he selling a place of his as well (he owns 2 rental properties) so you can live mortgage free?

I've been looking at rental properties, and hopefully over the weekend I can get to look at some of them. I don't really care about what the place looks like, just that it's close to public transport, and shops. I don't want to be relying on others for either of those things any more than I already do.

I worked out that my range is about $150-180, though hopefully closer to the lower end of that range. In that price range, I'll still be able to afford bill, and eat fairly well. Hopefully I won't be forced to a diet of cheap noodles. I'm not sure when the "open house" starts, but I'd like to be out of here before then. I don't fancy playing nice with anyone looking around the house.

---

Something else that might be moving soon... The host of this site has told VirtualWolf that he's going to start a hosting business, so we'll both be paying for the hosting. I don't have a problem with that, but I think I may just wait until I move before I pay for the hosting. Just to make sure I can really afford it. As such, this place may just go down for awhile. If anything does happen, the database will be backed up, nothing will be lost.

stfu ffs

Yeah, I haven't had a long list of complaints in awhile. And since I'm having a really shitty day, time to bust out the bullet points...

  • I just kicked my leg on the damn doggy-door that we have on the back door for a dog that hasn't used it in nearly 3 years. But when I went to lock it closed, oh no... My mother (who likes to raise her voice at the drop of a pin - she thinks it gets her point across better) says that the dog might use it! News flash... If you've made the dog so fat that it won't even go up or down stairs any more, it's not going to go through the damn doggy-door.
