What did I do today? Lets see...

Total Geek

I took the "Geek Test" and got 27.0217% - Total Geek. Thus I have added the "I am a total geek" button to my site.

It's only fitting.

Anyone else care to take the test and post their score?

Ice Melts Fast These Days

A week without an update, and this time it's laziness - it's because I'm not home for over 8 hours a day.

Work is... Work... Really, it's easy money. Though admitently not much money. But, it's already afforded me new toys.

I am now the owner for a PSP, with a 1GB memory stick. Watching TV episodes or movies during the lunch break at work is awesome. Next week I'll get a wireless bridge, and take use of the Wifi in the PSP, and start controlling iTunes when I'm away from the computer, or using MSN when out side... Or just general Intarweb stuff. :)

The "home-brew" scene is somewhat lacking at the moment, mostly due to Sony being arse-fucked-stuffed-razor-back-turtle-cunts about the whole thing. "Oh no, only those who we allow can make our hardware functional! wah-wah-wah."

I guess you can all look forward to a half-arsed review of the PSP. Including a list of what I think are the great things about it, and the shit things about it.

Anyway... That'll do.

My first week at work is now over, and to tell you the truth - I don't hate it yet. Which I guess is a good sign. Of course, I really liked having no job. The lack of money was no fun, but having no responsibilities and being able to do just about whatever I wanted whenever I wanted was always nice. But the extra funds that come from having a job are out weighing that at the moment. I'm hoping to save a large amount of dollars - for no particular reason, just for any future ideas that I have.

The people in my area have been real nice to me, and haven't minded when I ask the stupid questions that a newbie asks, and I've been introduced to a few people in other departments who have been giving me lifts to and from work as they live close to me. Which is fan-friggin-tastic. On Monday, I took the bus and it took me 2 hours to get home. I finished work at 5, and I walked in the door at 7. Since I've been getting a lift, I've walked in the door at 5:20. It's brilliant, and was the sintcher for me sticking with this job after this first week. If it were for these lifts, I wouldn't be able to handle 2 hour trips there and back every day.

Oh, and Office Space now rings more true than it ever did to me before. ;)

Also... my ID photo makes me look like Mr Potato Head. Oh well. :)

Australian Poker League

I went to a tournament for the APL on Thursday. I didn't think I would last long once the games started, but as we lined up I realised I might not even get to play.

They were accepting 200 players, and 60 reserves. Reserves could only join in the games once a player was eliminated and only during the first 30 minutes. I was around I was around the 40th reserve, and itchin' to get a game.

I sat down with about 5-10 minutes left, 7 people to a table, which means each pot will be of significant size. Which worked out well, since I was starting with only a 1,000 worth of chips. First deal? Pocket 5's. Not significantly strong, but it worked for me and I won a nice pot.

Games continued not winning often, but when I followed past the flop I would win the odd large pot. At one point I had more chips any everyone on the table - a nice feeling. :)

After the 15 minute break, there was two new players on my table. A guy with significantly more chips than me, and some woman that barely knew how to play. We kept having to instruct her this late in the games.

I didn't last terribly long after the break, and my funds slowly dwindled away. In the end, I finished 52nd out of 260 people.

I left feeling quite pleased with myself.

life, but not as we know it

The recent months have been pretty good to me. After much time, I finally have a job. I start on Monday and I'm looking forward to it. It will be nice to get out of the house, earn some extra dollars so I can afford more toys to entertain me. :)

My jump into SLR photography is going well, as you can see by the smattering of new photos I've recently put up.

There are a few things I'd like to accomplish at some point this year...

  • I would like to get some large prints of some of my photos, and put them into an album or portfolio. Prints no smaller than 8x10. I'd also like to look into, and try to, sell some photos of mine.
  • Since my "Proof of Age" card isn't worth as many points as a drivers license, it sometimes proves difficult for me to sign up for things (remember the Blockbuster incident, Grant?). So getting a passport would allow me to do such things easier.
  • The idea had crossed my mind last year, but I would like to get a pistol license, so I can use pistols at a range or possibly even own one. Just as a hobby, not for home "protection".
  • Over the last week or so, the idea of getting a new dog has cross my mind. I should really look into this further at some point.

Where'd he go?

Gone offcamping for a few days, I'll be back on Friday (my time) with hopefully plenty of pictures. I'm hoping to get some good wildlife shots with the telephoto lense.

Uh, yeah. That'll do.

Happy Christmas

... or merry bah-humbug. Which ever you celebrate. :)

Useful member of society...

... Or something like that soon, I guess.

I must have said the right things in that recent interview, because starting on January 16th, I will be employed as a trainee in office admin.

Go team me, eh?

I'll find out more details about it on January 9th, which isn't far away, so I better start trying to get my sleep schedule on track.

Help, I can't see!

A short while ago, I had a brief rant about the lack of glasses I had to choose from. I've had some news about this recently some of it good, some of it is really just makes you think "what the fuck are they doing?"

Earlier last week I was told that my glasses had come in, but they hadn't been tinted. This makes them useless as sunglasses, so back they had to go. Then on Friday I was informed by the store that my lenses were now ready and would be in the store on Monday, woohoo! I was also told that the day I spent looking at every frame was a complete fucking waste, as they managed to have them made to fit in the original frame I decided on a month earlier. Hooray, I was thinking, I'll have my glasses on Monday.

Nope. Think again.

The lenses had come in Monday as planned... But there was a chip in one of them. w. t. f.

The chip was at the side of one of the lenses, I have no clue how big it is but they are attempting to polish it out, so it can't be too big. If they can't polish it out, this will probably mean a new lens will need to be made... And I won't get my new sunglasses until the new year. I certainly hope this isn't the case.

I haven't discussed this with them yet, but since I've been dealing with the manager of the store for many weeks now, I will be expecting a very large discount. It'll be 10 weeks wait as of the end of this week, and that is just unacceptable.
