Review: Corridorzone 2: The Browning (PS3)

Let me preface this review by saying that I never played the first Killzone on the PS2 and I only played the single player scenario as I couldn't be bothered with the multiplayer.

The first Killzone was, apparently, a hugely promoted Playstation 2 game that was, at one point, dubbed a "Halo killer". Only when it came out in 2004, it was warmly received at best. Killzone 2 on the other hand is apparently selling quite well. With over a million units shipped worldwide since February 2009.

I rented Killzone 2 on a whim. It was available at the local video store and I was looking for something to kill time this long weekend. And kill time it did - for just over 7 hours I was running around shooting Helghast soldiers of varying types for no apparent reason.

Mini Review: Skate 2 (PS3)

I wasn't a fan of the first Skate game. I did play it it, but it was easily forgotten. Skate 2 on the other hand... Is not that great either.

When it gets down to it, Skate 2 is an okay game. But just okay. There are too many bugs and little annoyances that constantly take you out of the game. Sure you can get off your board, but they've made it awkward enough that you rarely want to. The player models are completely stiff, emotionless and every single one of them look the same. And if you happen to skate yourself into a corner or in a place you probably shouldn't of gone your character will bounce off the walls rather than simply stop and wait for you to turn around or get off the board.

The Hall of Meat side-game is quite fun though. Even if the rag-doll effects could of - no, should of been considerably better. Especially since it's so fun to play especially online.

To sum it up, I didn't mind renting it. But unless it was dirt cheap I would not buy it. Far too many little annoyances.

God of War 3: Want Now!

PlayStation Home Beta

This morning I woke up to a strange email in my inbox. A redeem code to access the PlayStation Home beta. Why was this strange? Because as far as I was aware beta codes were only being given out in the US and Asian Territories.

So, excitedly I entered the code and downloaded the small (77MB) install for Home. After it installed, I fired it up... It wants to reserve 3GB of my. Okay, I can let that go. I've seen worse PS3 required installs.

"I have three, PS3's"

Are you kidding me?!

Seriously Sony, is this some sort of a freaking joke?

You want to start charging a fee for "premium" PS3 themes?! The free themes are shit, you can't seriously expect me to pay for these things?

Haven't you made enough mistakes with the PS3 already? Why continue to ad things to the negatives column.

Edit: Link to the Playstation blog about the "premium" themes.

Why does Sony hate Australia?

Whilst this rant is specific to Sony, in reality it's more about the Australian video games in general.

For many years (possibly decades) Australia has had a weak dollar exchange rate with the US and as such, many gamers had grown accustomed to paying a a premium for our video games - around $100AU for a console game. This price wasn't acceptable, but we dealt as there was no real way of getting a (legit) copy of a game imported any cheaper than what we could get here.

Shortly before the Playstation 3 was released, Playstation 2 games started being having a recommended retail price (RRP) of $90AU

Enter the "very good exchange rate" character.

I am a PlayStation 3 Owner

Okay, yes I caved. I went out and bought a 40GB PS3.

My train of thought was that the 40GB offers no backwards compatibility so I could jump ship and get an Xbox 360. But I came to the conclusion that it's better the devil you know.

Yeah, 40GB is lame but apparently there's now support for external hard drives and it's not hard to replace the standard HD with something of a size that matters. There's even a panel on the side of the case that says to remove when changing the hard drive. Of course I won't be changing the HD for awhile as not all games load content onto the HD.

The games I got when I picked up the system are Motorstorm and Heavenly Sword.

My Home Cinema...

I used to enjoy going to the cinemas when I was younger. There was a cinema near me that was owned by the same people that had a hardware store. They had a deal going where if you spent $30 at the hardware store, you would get two free tickets to any movie they had showing. For the 6-12 months that this deal ran for, we took advantage of this deal and I saw many movies that came out that year. A lot of things also got done around the house at this time too because of the money being spent at the hardware store.

This was back in 1993. I know this because Jurassic Park was one of the movies that I saw... Twice.

Canis Canem Edit (Bully)

Since I've been starved for a new PS2 game since I picked up God of War, today I decided to pick up Bully, also known as "Canis Canem Edit" (I'd like to find out the English translation, if any, of that title). So, how do I like it so far?
