My Day Off

Submitted by doughnut on June 22, 2006 - 12:20am.

I took a sickie today. Not the "great Aussie tradition" one either. I was genuinely sick. Got a doctors certificate, prescription meds, the usual. But I digress (I what?)...

For a very long time, I didn't have a job and I got entirely too used to it in many ways. Today I realised how easy I had it when I got sick. What I mean by this is that when I got a bad cold, it wouldn't bother me to be out of action for days at a time. Sure, I'd get meds when needed and hate the feeling of being unwell. But now days, I've had about 3-4 individual sick days this year, each time I've gone back to work feeling better though not totally recovered.

I bring this up because despite my general feeling of unwell, I fully intend on going to work tomorrow. Even though I'll probably just want to sleep for most of the day, just like today - though I did force myself to go for a walk and not get as much sleep as I could/should have.

No real point to this post, I guess. Just a noticing a difference to "this time last year".

Submitted by burto on June 22, 2006 - 8:49pm.

when ya take a day off something all your energy gets wasted on stressing about whether you'll be better in time, or not... rather than actually relaxing and letting it do its thang..

cant win.. why try

I know what you mean man! I

Submitted by death on June 23, 2006 - 1:23pm.

I know what you mean man! I had yesterday and today off, I have a throat infection (have antibiotics and a doctors certificate), and I usually don't take days off work when I'm actually sick, but last time I didn't when I was actually sick it lasted for a month
(back in november/december)...sickie's for me are all about taking a bludge day off work, but this week I was really concerned about my health, wanted to get better now rather than pay for it later like last time.
It does look bad though for me this week, I had Monday off as I was given a free day in June to take (long story, but basically the company got a certain % service level and our CEO gave us a day off to thank us), and i was at work for 2 days, and now I've had 2 days off, the main problem is I got a new manager that started on Monday that might now think I'm a bludger or something. But hey, what can I do?

I probably should of had

Submitted by doughnut on June 23, 2006 - 5:30pm.

I probably should of had Tuesday off as well, but I just can't keep having multiple days off. Meh, oh well.

Go go antibiotics, do your thang!
