of old friends and fond memories...
Submitted by doughnut on February 28, 2006 - 9:51pm.
As years go by, friends will drift in and out of your life. It's inevitable. We're just not the same people we are during our younger years. This comes from growing out of your younger ways, and growing into the person you will be for some time to come. Or because you move on from old hobbies or ways of spending your time and come to realise you have little else in common. There's probably a third reason but someone smarter than me can mention it.
Back in my high school years, I met some friends (or some friends found me?) because I used a laptop (PowerBook 190cs) for my school work. As far as I can remember, I was just sitting in the library one lunch time, when a couple of people a grade above came up and we started randomly talking about computers. A couple of them just happened to be Mac users as well, a few others were Windows people all the way. Some fun was had over the years because of this.
of all night gaming...
At some point, we started meeting up outside of school and doing the nerdy LAN party thing - that term had not been coined at this point yet, and we actually called them Wake Overs, coming from the fact that we'd all get very little sleep due to caffeine, sugar and all night gaming. This started off with my LC 475, PowerBook 190cs and an LC III playing the Marathon demo, but as we kept having Wake Over's, we it eventually grew to an LC 475, PowerBook 190cs, LC III, PowerMac 7600 and a PowerBook G3. All of this in my cramped room with network cables going everywhere. I remember one night having to crawl out of a corner because we had hooked up cables across where I would normally walk.
There was other games we played too; Spaceward Ho! was a simplistic turned based game that we would usually start the day/night with and have a game that went for several hours with all of us teamed up with impossible odds and try to conquer the universe. Bolo, an odd little tank based that had one network mode, but the unusual ability for players to make a copy of the application, launch it and run it as a "bot". So, we would do this, and even had an archive of the max number of bots we could have, so we could get a full game happening all the time, each with their own unique name too. There was even a Bolo match that went for almost an entire day. Yes, nearly 24 hours and we had made a Pepsi can pyramid by the end of it. Unfortunately, I don't think any photos were ever taken of the Pepsi pyramids we made.
The day I bought Marathon Infinity, well that was a great day for our little event. Suddenly we could all make our own Marathon maps and bring them along with us to enjoy. I still have archives of hundreds of game films that will probably never be watched again, but I just have to keep them around for some reason, along with the many maps we each created and the ones we downloaded from many places on the Internet.
then there was...
Computer games weren't the only thing that we did. Watching movies (my discovery of the Evil Dead trilogy came from one of these events) until all hours of the morning while sitting on enough air beds to cover the lounge room floor, heading off to see a movie at the cinemas, or just walking around town talking. This was all before we were old enough to be drinking alcohol.
Numerous times a few of the Cheech and Chong movies were on the list for us to watch at these events, and I can still to this day remember the "now ain't that a peach" gag.
As all of our high school studies increased and some graduated, these events hit their peak and became fewer and fewer until we'd realised they were no more. When most of these friends graduated high school, for some reason we found it difficult to keep in touch. While sometimes I hear about what they're doing now days, we've still not managed to keep in touch. A few times over the years, when we've bumped into each other at one party or another, we've often spoke of having one more WakeOver to remember the old days, though we never have.
Not meant to be depressing
Submitted by doughnut on February 28, 2006 - 9:54pm.Not meant to be depressing in anyway, just me recalling some fun times from years ago. I would like to add to this and make it more detailed though I doubt that will happen. I'd been holding onto this for months and I figure it best that I post it now.
As your number one most
Submitted by Clare on February 28, 2006 - 10:08pm.As your number one most greatest friend, I'm a bit sad I was not mentioned. Even though I had no idea what most of those words you just said were
I hadn't even met you while
Submitted by doughnut on February 28, 2006 - 10:12pm.I hadn't even met you while all this was going on, that could quite possible be the reason.
Nope, not good enough. Not
Submitted by Clare on February 28, 2006 - 10:13pm.Nope, not good enough. Not even the slightest Clare memory! It doesn't have to be in that time!

...mmm.... memories
Submitted by DcBob on March 1, 2006 - 7:03am.That actually brings back a lot of memories from last school year. My room on the dorm was a LAN center. given the fact that the whole dorm was even networked so there used to be around 5 guys in my room, everyday, after school was over and until we went to sleep (around 2 AM for me, 4 AM for them, everyday) and we competed against the guys on the 4th floor. (we were on the 2nd floor) in games like Warcraft 3, Starcraft, Quake 3, Call of Duty, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (and some Marathon games, but well, the other guys didn't like it so...)
man.. the good old days, Then the group split up, or actually the core of the group. i got an apartment, and one guy moved to Mexico for a year and well, now the third one and the last guy left of the core is still on the dorm, fighting boredom.
man... the good old days

...history...
Submitted by Full Stomach on March 4, 2006 - 4:13pm.Hmmm...
Where to start... It is very true, although paths in life diverge, people loss track of each other, not far any particular reason, just simple because life changes. Athough this may be the case, what are we to say, when all we know and all we have are to change? what do you stand on in those times when the nights are long and the days are dark? For myself I can be assured that because of what Jesus has done in dying on the cross for all the things that I do wrong, I will have a place in heaven, which is the case for everyone who wishes to accept Jesus as there Lord and saviour. So the people I may lose track of in this life as the days and years go on, I can have the hope that I will see them again maybe not in this life, but in the next.
Though for the memorys I have, during the time blake speeks of are great. I dont know if I have ever drunk so much MountainDew or Pepsi in one night as the times I did in those days. Blake failed to mention the games of Myth, and Myth II which were played over the Internet, and the LAN.
The "peach", hehe, that was a great one. I believe there was a few Anime films in there. If memory serves me correct, Im still winning at Uno
so what then...
What will the future hold, where will life take us. That is not a question which I can answer. Have I forgotten anything, maybe I might remember later.
I didn't fail to mention, I
Submitted by doughnut on March 5, 2006 - 7:28pm.I didn't fail to mention, I just focused on only a few memorable events.
I really want to write some more about those times, and hopefully I get the time and can remember the events.
If you feel like writing about those days go ahead and do so, dude. I'll be sure to promote it to the front page for all to read. And you might remind me of some things in doing so.
Go Team Violent!
Submitted by Pashoshon on March 20, 2006 - 5:49am.Hey, guys, sorry I haven't kept in touch much. I'm still hitting the uni thing, doing Electrical Engineering at UWS Penrith, long houred days.
And who could forget our Violet pants?! Go Team Violent! I always sucked at Myth multiplayer, but co-op was fun. Anyways, it's nearly time for my train, and it's just barely light outside. O_o
I remember some of the best things of the 'Thon Wake Overs were the Co-op games, especially when someone died and we'd have to wait for them before proceding much further into the level. I still have all the phfilms from then, watched them about a year ago, wishing they could record the sound of us in the room, especially on "Symme7ry Simplici7y" and the Infinite Triangle. Because of my white armour, you guys gave me the nickname "the Walking Cumstain"
God bless,

Team Violent
Submitted by doughnut on March 25, 2006 - 9:52am.We always liked playing against the odds for some reason... Either it was co-op on Total Carnage and Myth, or massively outnumbered in Bolo. I guess we found it more fun if we though there little chance we'd win.
Good to hear from you again, man... Don't go years between comments again.
